Teaching children’s tennis lessons is one of my favourite aspects of being a tennis coach and there’s never a better time than now for your child to get into tennis. Seeing a child develop their tennis game and hit balls with their friends is a true delight and I’m proud to have coached many children throughout the years to both county and national level.
I offer both individual children’s tennis lessons as well as coaching children’s group tennis lessons with multiple children (i.e. siblings or friends). The main aspect within any children’s tennis lesson is making it fun before then concentrating on developing great technique and court awareness from an early age. In addition, Bath Tennis Club and Bath Ace run dedicated children’s tennis sessions every Thursday and Saturday which I coach – see below for more details. Please get in touch for more information or to book a tennis lesson or group tennis session for your child.

As both a tennis coach and father, I know first-hand that children need to feel relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings before they can learn. I take the opinion that the tennis court needs to be a light and welcoming space where children can have fun, meet new friends and enjoy hitting balls without it feeling too much like school. Bath Tennis Club provides the perfect environment for children’s tennis lessons, set away from the road in a secure and safe setting, just a stone’s throw from the children’s playground at Victoria Park.

As well as fun, children’s tennis is about putting in place good habits and technique from a young age. By using the correct grip, equipment (rackets available to borrow during lessons) and working on good hand-eye co-ordination from the outset, young tennis players can make big strides forward in a relatively short space of time. Once confident rallying over a smaller specialist children’s net, skills that you’d see in an adult’s game are then slowly introduced before being taken onto a full size court as they develop their strength and ability.

Once their overall racket skills are honed in, the really satisfying part to children’s tennis lessons is seeing them develop their court play. This can be both solo play (i.e them against me or another child) or 2-on-1 style play where the children learn to play as a doubles pair whilst balls are fed to either player. This type of practice helps develop their decision making, appreciation of their playing partner as well as allowing them to practice their skills shots in a fun, match style environment.
All children’s tennis lessons are 1-hour long and take place unless of adverse weather conditions (excessive rain, strong winds etc.) All sessions take place at Bath Tennis Club and include court fees. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your lesson. Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance might be charged in full.

No parking is available at the club but roadside parking for 2-3 hours (variable zones on road) can be found on Park Lane. Alternatively, paid parking up to 4 hours is available in Victoria Park adjacent to the club.
For some children, they may like to first join in a group session to see if they like the game. Every Saturday and Thursday, in association with Bath Ace at Bath Tennis Club, I coach group kids tennis sessions. Rackets and balls are provided – just ensure suitable clothing and trainers are worn and bring along a named water bottle.
Please get in touch for further details, availability and to ensure that your child is correctly matched to the right group for their age and standard.
