Performance Tennis Lessons

During my 30+ years as an LTA Accredited + Coach, I have coached many county and performance tennis players.  My particular interest is in technical analysis and stroke production which goes hand in hand with developing advanced games, working on movement, game tactics, shot development and taking the ball early. As well as advanced junior players, I’m also delighted to work with adults who enjoy competing and pushing their tennis. Please get in touch to book a performance tennis lesson today.

Movement

One of the most fundamental paths to playing top level performance tennis is through improving your movement. When you watch players such as Novak Djokovic or Coco Gauff, their athleticism is truly breathtaking, covering the court in seconds whilst always being in the very best position possible to take hold of any advantage. In your performance tennis lesson, you’ll be worked hard through varying fitness and agility drills, whilst hitting balls on the stretch and from unpredictable angles. By improving your reaction time, speed and awareness, your tennis game can truly develop to the next level.

Game Tactics

Tennis is much like a game of chess with a match won on one or two defining moments between top players. Having huge shots and great movement is a key asset for any aspiring performance player, but tactical know how and court craft are equally as important. With over 30+ years’ experience coaching and many more years playing and studying the game, I help players understand the mental side of tennis so that can decipher how best to approach a match depending on their opponents strengths and weaknesses, as well as their own.

Shot Development

A key staple of any performance tennis lesson is working on shot development. Most advanced players already have a great array of shots, but adding an extra kick or 5mph to a serve or working on creating angles out of nowhere can turn a good player into a great one. This is one area of the game I love as each every performance tennis player has the ability to continually develop a new weapon in the game that will unlock their development.

Early Take Up

You only have to watch players like Carlos Alcaraz to understand how devastating an early return of serve can be. During performance tennis lessons, I look to teach players how to take away their opponent’s serve, turning defence into attack, whilst also working on taking ground strokes earlier to reduce recovery time for the opponent.
